Marcus served his apprenticeship with Birmingham City, had a short spell at Telford United before going to Kidderminster Harriers for a fee of £10,000 in 1996. He was capped for the England C Team, and after 56 appearances moved on to Crewe Alexandra in August 1997 for £100,000. Marcus joined Bristol Rovers in August 2000 and then moved on to Queens Park Rangers in March 2001.
He moved to Rushden and Diamonds in July 2001 when they were in the old second division and during a 30 month stay played 77 games before it was back to Loftus Road for 4 years and 136 games. During this stay Marcus became Club captain. It was then onto Milwall in January 2008, and finally he returned to where it all started Kidderminster, in February 2010.
He was appointed as manager of Solihull Moors in July 2011 and steered the club to safety in The Blue Square North, before then leading the Moors to a 9th place finish last season which included a 13 match unbeaten run.
