Solihull Moors secured their first win of the New Year with a 5-3 win over Gainsborough Trinity. Solihull got off to a perfect start with Ryan Beswick scoring on five minutes and it was Beswick again on 43 minutes to give Moors a two goal cushion. In the second half, Gainsborough showed why they are play off contenders and scored on 47 minutes when Luke Waterfall pulled a goal back. The turning point of the game was on 52 minutes when Gavin Cowan was sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity. Beswick stood up and took the penalty to clinch his hat trick. This was the first hat trick for Solihull since Jason Moore in September 2007 against Soham Town Rangers, and the first ever league hat trick by a Solihull Moors player. It also means that Ryan is now the all time top scorer for Solihull. Gainsborough had an opportunity to come back into the game with a penalty award, only for Jas Singh to go the correct way and save yet another penalty. Danny Spencer made it 4-1 on 67 minutes with his first home league goal for Solihull, before substitute Lee Morris scored the fifth for Solihull on 77 minutes. Gainsborough made a bit more of a fight of it with goals from substitutes Leon Mettam (86 minutes) and Jonathan Williams (88 mins). Line up: SIngh, Francis, Langdon, Bennett, Pierpoint (Broadurst 49mins), Spencer, Thompson-Brown, English, Walker (Morris 64mins), Beswick, Blackwood (Johnson 75mins). Unused subs: Fitzpatrick and Martinez |
