Youth and Junior round-up

By Luke Turner

Ant Hasker brings us the latest from the weekend action...

Highlights of the weekend...

Saturday Section (CWGFL):

Only one game this week in the Girls section, as the U14s travelled over to Lichfield City to face them for the second time this season. Having won 5:0 previously, a place in the Open Cup Round 1 Proper was at stake as Moors swept Lichfield aside 1:4 with a superb display of football from start to finish. Super striker Grace Barsby grabbed a hat-trick, including a goal direct from a corner - Madison Hodson claimed the other.

Sunday Section (CWYFL):

An action-packed and almost full day of fixtures for the Sunday section this week.

At the youngest end of the section, we saw 2x U7s teams and 2x U8s teams compete for the Autumn Cup, where U7s MM coached by Mike Mountford had a fantastic day out drawing and losing their games, so just missing out on winners medals. U7s CC coached by Chris Craske and Kev Moran replicated U7s MM team by drawing and losing also. In the U8s finals, U8s JS team coached by Jon Sims won their first game, but drew the second meaning the dreaded penalties which they narrowly lost out 5:4 to Arden Forest Blue in the end - so close to winning that cup! The U8s PD team coached by Paul Dumbleton replicated this also, a massive shame for them lads, but another experience in the bag!

The U12s MK team coached by Mark Kinsey continued their assault on their division with another convincing 0:3 away victory against Sheldon Royals Eagles going three points clear at the top of the table.

In the first of two Moors derbies again this week, the U15s NJ team coached by Nick Jamieson ran out narrow 2:1 winners at home to our U15s MR team coached by Mick Rogers.

The U15s Lions kept themselves top of the league with a 7:3 home victory against Bartley Reds with Jamie Parker grabbing a hat-trick.

In the second derby game, our U16s IF team coached by Ian Farrell hosted the U16s DH team coached by Dave Healey and produced a wonderful game from start to finish. IF went ahead in the very first minute and then extended their lead in the first couple of minutes of the second period. However, the DH team pulled two goals back with very good team moves to pull off a draw in the final stages of the game.

The U16s JK team grabbed a place in the next round of the Open Cup with a 1:3 away victory to Kingshurst Sporting in the U16s Premier Division.

Adult Section:

The Sunday Adult team travelled to local side Glades FC this week in the BCFA County Cup Round 2. They faced a very young, but resourceful side who made a game of it - but the Moors managed to slip past Glades for a 1:2 victory to assure themselves a place in round 3.

Veterans Section:

The Birmingham County Over 45 League kicked off for the first time this weekend which saw six new over 45s teams playing 9v9 at a central venue league hosted by Boldmere St Michaels. Solihull Moors had entered two teams naming themselves orange and reds after their kit colours. A fantastic night supporting our chosen charity Alzheimer's UK unfortunately saw both our sides come out with defeats, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Both sides now have two weeks to recover before they face off in a 'Moors Derby' game on 18th November, as the league is bi-weekly.
