Tim Flowers' side slip to a defeat...

Solihull Moors suffered a first away defeat of 2019 as two second half goals were enough for Salford City at the Peninsula Stadium.

Some quick thinking from Lee Vaughan almost saw Danny Wright in on goal, but Chris Neal was out quickly to clear.

The first chance of the game then fell to Alex Gudger as he met a knock-down in the middle but blazed over the bar from a few yards out.

The same man then came ever so close to giving Moors the lead, but he found Neal in the way - not once, but twice as the ‘keeper stood firm to save from close range.

Matt Green got in behind the Moors defence as the flag stayed down. Ryan Boot made a good save with his legs before Green cut it back for Devonte Redmond who fired over.

On the stroke of half-time, a Jamey Osborne corner was met by Wright who saw his glancing header drift inches wide of the far post.

Half-time: Salford City 0-0 Solihull Moors

The opening goal came nine minutes into the second half as a ball into the box was met by the head of home skipper Liam Hogan who got there ahead of Boot and saw his effort go into the back of the net.

Adi Yussuf was the first man off the Solihull bench, but his first involvement was a foul on Ibou Touray which earnt the striker a yellow card.

As the visitors searched for an equaliser, Osborne’s cross fell to the edge of the area where Vaughan was waiting – his first-time half-volley went into the side netting.

Another Osborne cross found Wright in the middle, but his header was comfortably plucked out of the air by Neal.

Green then escaped the Moors backline and tried to beat Boot from an acute angle where the Solihull number one stood firm.

However, that elusive second goal came when Vaughan was caught under pressure and the ball was teed up for Green who struck an effort off the underside of the crossbar.

The Moors remain in third place in the Vanarama National League, with home matches against Gateshead and Braintree Town to come next week.
