Sarah Westwood has announced her captain and vice-captain for the upcoming season, with Abbie Taylor and Pip Harmison taking on the respective roles as Solihull Moors Ladies look to build on their 7th-place finish in 2017/18.
“The staff at the club are delighted to have Abbie and Pip as part of our leadership team for the season ahead,” said the boss. “Both of them are well respected by the staff and the players, and have natural leadership qualities that they show on and off the pitch.
“They lead by example through their drive and hard work and are very personable, understanding and approachable teammates – they will head up what is a team full of leaders this season and I am very much looking forward to working closely with them.”
Abbie is going into her second season at Moors having made 22 appearances in 2017/18, scoring six goals. Speaking to the new skipper, the 25-year-old reflected on her excitement for Sunday’s first game:
“I am thrilled to be the new club captain for the season with Pip as vice-captain. I’m really looking forward to the season on Sunday and being able to get stuck into both playing and my new role!”
Meanwhile, operating at left-midfield, Pip made 20, scoring five. Thus, both players were crucial cogs last season and face another equally important campaign.
Pip joined the club in January 2017 and has loved every minute of her time with Solihull.
“There is never a dull moment and I am very excited to take on the vice-captain role. I have always given 110% on the pitch and now I have the chance to do that off the pitch too. I look forward to working alongside Abbie and Sarah Westwood and feel together we can develop the club. Solihull is like my second home; bring on the season!”
Solihull begin their campaign with an away game against Burton Albion on Sunday, primed and ready after the summer break.
