Moors Academy 3 Earlswood Town 0
Moors do not disappoint - by Ron Crane...
In front of their largest attendance of the season so far, The young Moors did not disappoint. Although Town were the first to press an attack and force a corner, the Moors cleared and two minutes later Jordan Clarke, returning from a three match suspension, made no mistake from a free kick some 18 yards out and slightly to the right of centre. It did go in via a deflection, but an early goal it was, and the Moors were not about to let it slip this time.
The Moors were set up in a 4-1-4-1 formation which Town found difficult. Five minutes before the break the Moors had a move along their left, from which they won a corner. This was hammered home by the impressive Rubyn Gill. More could have come, but Shuja put the ball over from 12 yards.
Substitute Myles Mason secured the victory when he was on the end of a wonderful attacking move down the Moors right. It was a three-goal victory, but credit to Town, who never gave up and were still seeking their goal when the final whistle was blown.
However, there are areas where the Moors management need to work. Far too many crosses and corners were inaccurate, too long or wayward. Four times they were caught in possession in their own third of the park, this could have been costly. Without a tremendous save from Bobbie Biddle on seventeen minutes, the score would have been 1-1. That could have changed the complexion of the whole game. As it is, he pulled of the save and all was well.
The Moors had another half a dozen attempts at goal, that were all fluffed. On the up side, they restricted Town to one shot on goal and one wide shot in the whole match. Perhaps the Academy have much to learn, but they are not the finished article, they are young men learning their trade. But: they are good to watch. Their passing is like a cat purring, and in the tactical department, they learn quickly.
This win take them into the top half of the league table. There is a break in proceedings now, as there is no game for Moors Academy this Saturday (13th).
