CPA 1 Moors Academy 7

Ronald Crane reports from the Aston University Recreation Ground as Moors ease through in the Saturday Vase...
The Clarke twins and Kamol Campbell were unavailable for this match, and manager Sam Manoochehri poorly, so Kim Casey took charge. Efe came in at number six, Ethan Sephton moved up to eleven, and Ryan Coley received his first call up on the bench. Stanley Anarbonam and Josiah also received call ups.
From the very start, it was the Moors who were determined to press their authority on the match. With four minutes on the clock a lovely move on their right ended with Stanley slotting home. One thought that it was a taster of things to come. That was until fiver minutes later. CPA produced a long throw-in from their right. As the ball dropped into the crowded six yard box, it seemed to cause total confusion in the Moors defence. Biddle stretched to get a hand to the ball but succeeded in only dragging it into his own net for the equaliser. Was this going to be “one of those days”?
Shuja Mahmood had no such thoughts and in the next 14 minutes he put the matter beyond doubt. First: persistence by the Moors’ front runners bore fruit when he netted. Then a long ball found the number nine who beat two or three men to score from 18 yards. Finally, Dylon, and Keziah on the left led to a centre and the shot from Shuja that secured his hat-trick. At four to one, surely there was no way back for CPA now? Just to make sure Stanley scored his second from the penalty spot some nine minutes before half time.
The second half was a something of an anti-climax, as – with the score at 1-5 – one might expect. Nevertheless, the hosts did not stop trying, neither did they turn on the rough stuff. Their foul count did increase in the second period, but it was never a dirty game. To their eternal credit, CPA continued to try and play football, it was not their fault that this young Moors side could do the same, faster, better, and to better account.
Josiah Panton came on at the hour mark, and scored two goals to make the count seven. For his first, following good work in midfield by the Moors, he walked the ball into the net with the home defence all at sea. Two minutes into injury-time, CPA were robbed of the ball in midfield. It was passed to Josiah who beat two men to score.
It was all over. Man of the Match Keziah Martin had a wonderful afternoon. Everything in midfield was through him, because of him, or aided by him. It was a 10/10 performance.
