Lane Head 1 Moors Academy 3
Second half performance seals it - by Ronald Crane
Moors Academy made one change for this match. Arman Khooshkoo started and Shuja Mahmood was on the bench. A positional change was also made, Keziah Martin and Rubyn Gill swapping.
On a difficult pitch, both sides had a real attempt to control the ball. The damp atmosphere did not help. In an interesting first half, the Moors were well on top and controlled the game without having many clear-cut chances. Yet, even so, Ben Maxwell made a couple of top notch saves.
The Moors pressed home their advantage right from the start and an Arman cross caused concern for the home side. This was not to be the only time Arman caused trouble for the home side but, somehow, they managed to survive.
Moors gave away a silly free kick just outside their area. The shot was deflected, and Maxwell saved well. Ethan Sephton produced a cross from the left that was defended and deflected. Rubyn Gill pounced on a goalkeeper mistake, but the young Lane Head ‘keeper recovered.
Lane Head had to clear a Moors free kick from the goal line. This led to a home side break attack, and Taylor saw his shot saved by Maxwell.
We reached the interval with the scores still all square. Whatever was said in the away dressing room certainly had effect for the young Moors who came out firing on all cylinders. With hardly a minute of the second half gone, Rubyn Gill chased down the home ‘keeper when he fluffed at the ball. The Moorsman put his whole body on the line and the ball broke to Keziah Martin who opened the scoring with ease. It was a good break for the visitors, and unlucky foe the home side who were set up not to lose. Now they would have to chase the game.
However, eight minutes later the Moors doubled their lead. Nathan Binner sent over a good cross from the right that was missed by all the forwards. The resulting corner was sent over by Dylon Bennett for Charlie Jones to head the ball home.
Moors were still not satisfied and went after number three. It came when Arman received a pass from Thomas. The little number 11 made it three.
Surely that was that? To their credit, beaten they may have been, but Lane Head were not going to lay down for another six-goal drubbing.
They used all they had to keep the Moors out, and even on occasion, made their way into the visitor’s half. This paid-off for a minute into added time Kelly latched on to a long ball to score a consolation goal.
The visiting bench was furious! “It ruined my weekend” said Sam Manoochehri! However, in calmer mood he gave his young charges every credit for a really good win that keep the Moors promotion hope alive.
