Moors slipped to a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday evening.

Solihull Moors were defeated on Tuesday evening by a quick-fire Inih Effiong double as Aldershot secured a rare victory in this fixture.

Goals inside the opening 20 minutes put the visitors into an early lead that Moors couldn't claw back, despite a Bartosz Cybulski goal.

The result sees the hosts slip into the bottom half for the first time this season.

Team News

Recent additions Tom Whelan and Oisin Smyth both made their first league starts for the club in the midfield.

Elsewhere, Joey Jones got the nod ahead of Alex Gudger at centre back.

Whilst matchday signing, Max Brogan had to settle for a place on the bench just hours after his move from Nuneaton Borough was confirmed.

The Match

Moors looked dangerous in the early stages with Andrew Dallas and Smyth combining well in the left channel, however, it was the away side who struck the first telling blow.

Having had a good spell prior, Oliver Pendlebury's 14th minute corner was powered home by an on-rushing Effiong, his run was un-tracked from the edge of the area and met it with his head to put Ross McNeilly's side ahead.

Minutes later, Effiong hit Moors with another sucker punch; from an innocuous ball over the top, Jake Hutchinson fizzed in a low cross which the red-hot striker raced onto and rifled home for his second in as many minutes, beating Ryan Boot at his near post.

It was Moors who saw much of the ball from then on, Josh Kelly had a chance blocked after he cut in off the left touchline, and then Andrew Dallas fired over after some clever improvisation from Smyth in the 31st minute.

There was time though, for Effiong to have another chance to grab his hat-trick before the interval. After a Jones slip in the middle, he arrived late onto another low cross, but this time his touch was poor, and Boot closed out the danger.

Half-time: Solihull Moors 0-2 Aldershot Town

Ardley turned to his bench at half-time and brought Cybulski into the fray.

Immediately Moors looked sharper and had the ball in the back of the net when Ryan Barnett's shot the ball was spilled by Luca Ashby-Hammond, Cybulski was on the scene and appeared to get the touch, but it may well go down as a Barnett goal, for what would be his first in the league this season.

The Polish forward was at the heart of most Moors' good work by this point, and he again went close in the 54th when he met a low cross but could only poke narrowly wide.

Aldershot were clinging on to what they had, often piling eleven men behind the ball at times. Barnett went close, and Cybulski again as the hosts threw everything at their stubborn opponents.

On 75 minutes a golden opportunity fell the way of Dallas; Ben Coker whipped a cross into the frontman, but he couldn't direct his header in, missing the target by a handful of yards.

The final chance again fell the way of Cybulski, this time he combined with fellow substitute Justin Donawa, the latter pulled a low cut-back across goal, but it was just behind the big man who could only scoop over the crossbar, and with it seal Moors' fate on the evening.
