Solihull Moors v Gateshead

Solihull Moors were defeated 2-0 by Gateshead on Saturday afternoon.

Moors came into the contest in good spirits but were undone by a first half Dan Ward goal just before half-time and a late Will Harris strike.

The result means the hosts slip into the bottom half of the National League standings.

Team News

Neal Ardley made one change from the side that gave a good account of themselves in defeat against Notts County on Tuesday.

Joe Sbarra replaced goalscorer Callum Maycock, as he made his first start since December 3.

Elsewhere, Jamey Osborne also marked his return from injury with a spot on the bench, alongside recent signing Mitchell Roberts who was awaiting his debut.

The Match

The tempo in the opening stages was controlled by Moors with a total domination of possession, however, it was Gateshead who had the first major chance when the ball found its way to Dan Ward at the far post, but he was denied by a brilliant starfish like save from Ryan Boot.

It took until the 16th minute for Moors to call Filip Marschall into action when the ball broke to Ryan Barnett in the area, and he fizzed a strike towards goal that the Gateshead 'keeper was equal to.

Soon after the game sprung to life with opportunities for either side; Coker and Sbarra went close within minutes of each other before Gateshead should have taken the lead when Ward cut inside and blazed over from inside the area.

After a slight lull in the game, it was the visitors who eventually took the lead in the 39th minute through Ward. Boot initially did well to keep out a deflected effort, but it fell only to the onrushing striker who slammed home a volley.

It should have been two before the interval, this time Adam Campbell raced through one-on-one but his strike was pulled wide.

Half-time: Solihull Moors 0-1 Gateshead

Coker was first to go close for Moors in the second half when his 25-yard free-kick clipped the outside of the post and went wide.

Around the hour mark Moors began to really turn the screw; a goal-bound Dallas effort was blocked on the line following a Ben Coker corner, and from the resulting corner on the otherside Callum Howe went close but his header was down the throat of Marschall.

With 71 minutes gone it was Dallas who again went close but for the heroics of Marschall. James Clarke ran out from defence with the ball and slipped through the striker, he went low and was denied by the outstretched leg of the visiting 'keeper.

However, in six minutes of added time Gateshead added the killer blow; a shift counter-attack ended up with Harris who rolled home into the bottom left corner to resign Moors to defeat.
