Solihull Moors fell to a 3-0 defeat at Roots Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Neal Ardley's side came into the game with an undefeated record against the Shrimpers, however, never got going in the difficult conditions on a wet and windy Essex afternoon.
Goals from Jason Demetriou, Harry Cardwell and Jack Bridge were enough for the hosts to take all three points.
The boss named an unchanged side from the one that narrowly lost to Wrexham on Monday afternoon.
New signing Oisin Smyth was named amongst the substitutes in his first outing in the matchday squad.
Elsewhere, Ben Coker returned to his former employers, having made over 200 appearances for the Shrimpers, whilst Callum Howe again captained the side.
It was the hosts who went close early on through Ollie Kensdale when he sent a header narrowly wide of the post inside the first minute.
Kevin Maher’s side then went even closer with six minutes on the clock; Harry Taylor's cross found Callum Powell whose effort was well saved by Ryan Boot, before Jason Demetriou had his rebound cleared off the line by Callum Howe.
Southend eventually made their early dominance pay in the 18th minute. Kensdale's cross was met by the leaping Harry Cardwell, his header crashed off the bar and fell to Demetriou who nodded into an open net.
Boot was in fine form to keep the scoreline at one, as Moors struggled to get a foothold in the game. He was again called into action when Powell let fly from 20 yards to turn a goalbound effort round the post.
It took until minutes before half-time for Moors to trouble the Southend goal; Coker's free-kick caused havoc in the Shirmpers penalty area, eventually falling to Howe who saw his effort blocked on the line. Southend immediately countered and almost grabbed a goal of their own, Powell broke through one-on-one, but Boot was alert and snuffed out the danger.
Half-time: Southend United 1-0 Solihull Moors
Moors began the second half on the front foot, however, that enthusiasm was short lived when Cardwell made it two in the 55th minute. On the turn, he fired a low strike into the bottom corner right corner to double the host’s lead.
Not long after it was three; Jack Bridge picked up the ball on the left, drifted inside and arrowed a low effort into the bottom corner to seal the points for the Shrimpers.
The closest Moors came to a response was through a Ryan Barnett effort from range, receiving the ball in a central position, he struck at goal and saw his effort flash just wide of the post.
Noah Husin, and substitute Rhys Murphy both had efforts that were just inches away late on, but it made little difference as the hosts saw the job through unscathed.
