Leafield Athletic v Solihull Moors

Moors women clawed back a two goal deficit, to claim a valuable away point against their nearest rivals.

Goals from Lyndsey Ross-Baker and Cheyanne Jarvis were enough for Tom Blaymires' side to stay second in the league, having lost just one game.

The Match

Moors arrived at The Tally Ho looking to extend their unbeaten league run to five. On a chilly overcast night, the early exchanges were in and around the midfield areas, with neither side really stamping any authority on the game.

In the eighteenth minute, however, Leafield broke the deadlock. After a pass into the box split the Moors defence, the Leafield forward hit a strike onto the underside of the crossbar, before bouncing down and trickling over the line to pass the stranded Harley Savage.

The rest of the first half was end to end, but neither team created any clear cut chances.

Half-time: Leafield Athletic 1-0 Solihull Moors

After the break, the Moors came out with renewed vigor after their team talk and carved out a couple of half chances, unfortunately to no avail as the Leafield keeper caught easily.

With fifty one minutes gone, a mix up between the moors keeper and her defence resulted in the home side doubling their lead. As the ball broke free, Leafield's, Joyce, couldn't miss, shooting into an open goal.

Within two minutes, however, Moors had pulled one back. From a corner, right-back, Jess Howard put in a pinpoint cross and found Ross-Baker’s head who managed to squueze the ball through a packed box into the back of the net.

Just four minutes later Solihull restored the equilibrium, a switch of play found Jarvis out on the right flank, she jinked by two defenders, cut inside to the edge of the box and let loose a sublime effort into the top right corner of the goal.

After that, several chances were carved out by both teams, with the Moors looking the most likely to score.

The Leafield stopper made fine saves to deny Tiana Russell-Cartwright, Jarvis and substitute Becky Knight a potential winner. At the other end, Savage made a fine save in the dying minutes, to keep the Moors level.

In his post-match debrief Moors Manager, Blaymires pointed to the second half in which, for the most part Moors were the dominant with the team executing the game plan. He was also disappointed that his team didn’t come away with all three points
