A look back on the successes of last season...

The 2018/19 season was wrapped-up a few weeks ago now, but there are still some untold success stories that you may not know about.

Each season, our Youth and Junior teams continue to proudly wear the Solihull Moors shirt and again have a long list of achievements that are worth shouting about.

In terms of silverware, our U8’S JS team coached by Jon Sims were crowned Winter Cup Winners, St Finbars Tournament Winners and Maypole FC Tournament Winners. They also came close in the Autumn Cup and Spring Cup, finishing runners-up. Add to that a run of just two defeats in 20 games and the team can be very proud of their achievements.

The U11’s JB side coached by Joe Butler not only went on a 16-game unbeaten run but took home the Winter Cup and the Spring Cup.

It was a memorable campaign for the U12s as they won the Central Warwickshire Division 2 title.

Talk of a quadruple-winning Manchester City side was soon put to a halt, but our very own U13’s GB team coached by Gary Bird had other things in mind. Not only did they win the Nick Mowl Cup, but they were also successful in the Harpole Tournament, Woodhouse Colts Tournament and the Maypole FC Tournament.

To wrap-up our ‘champions’ section, the U15’s Girls coached by Paul Dumbleton won the Central Warwickshire Girls League Division 1 title as well as the Nunnery Wood Soccer 7s 2019 Tournament.

A number of teams came so close but were just pipped at the final hurdle to silverware. Most notably, our U9’s SH team coached by Sean Hill narrowly lost out to Marston Green in the Spring Cup Final losing 3-1. Meanwhile, our U14’s Girls side came so close to the Division 1 title in the Central Warwickshire Girls League, finishing runners-up despite being joint first place on 35 points with Bournville FC. The league staged a play-off game for the title and Bournville narrowly beat our Girls 2-1 to claim the title.

The U15’s Saturday Midland Junior Premier team coached by Dimitri Ward-Ttikkirou and John Jacob impressively came runners-up in their first season at the club in a league of 64 teams!

Maddison Williams has been signed by Birmingham City Women after two successful years in the Midland Junior Premier League with our u13 GB team. She was the only girl to be playing in this age group in this league.

Her manager Gary Bird said: “She is without doubt the most talked about players in our MJPL league division. It is a great loss for us but the pro game beckons for her and many who have seen Maddie play think she will appear for England one day!

“She is without doubt one of the most talented junior footballers I have seen – her attitude and understanding for the game is first class.”

Other player success stories include Mohammed Ghared and Joshua Nharo signing for Leicester City from our U11’s DJ team. Our U9’s Saturday team coached by Craig Walton have had two players recognised for their performances on the pitch – Henry Walton and Jamie Godfrey have been invited to Real Madrid in October for five days of training!

Finally, a shout out to Gaz Davies picked up ‘Y&J Coach of the Season’ award after not only claiming the Division 5 title with his U14’s team, but also taking Shirley Heath School (Representing Solihull Moors) to Wembley in the National League U11’s National Championships. In a competition involving over 600 other schools, they won 1-0 on the hallowed turf against a tough Oxford City side to be crowned national champions.

Gaz also steered Shirley Heath School to the Schools League and Cup double, as well as winning the district league title coaching Solihull District U11s - five titles in one season!

Congratulations to all of our Youth and Junior sides and all the very best for the upcoming campaign.
