Solihull Moors Ties Knot with Solihull Ladies FC

Solihull Moors and Solihull Ladies FC are delighted to announce that the Borough’s Premier ladies football team will, from the start of next season, be an integral part of Academy Moors. Their Manager, Sarah Westwood, will also transfer over to the Club.

Solihull Ladies was formed over 20 years ago and has steadily progressed through the years  with the team achieving its highest ever finish last season when they were fourth in the FA Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One. This is one of the feeder leagues to the FA Women’s Super League and effectively the 4th tier of Women’s football.

To maintain this momentum the club needs to work on and off the pitch with people who share its philosophy and ambition for success and it is a perfect fit with Moors Academy structure where they already have three teams for girls  (under 12’s, 13’s and 15’s). Players will now have the opportunity to progress to the top level of women’s football, mirroring the existing structure on the boys side.

Sarah Westwood will become Moors Academy Manager for Girls and Women.

She played for both Birmingham City (under the guidance of Marcus Bignot) and Aston Villa. Sarah holds the FA Level 2 Coaching certificate and is also an FA Licensed coach. She is Solihull, born and bred and joined Solihull Ladies in 2007 where after a couple of seasons injury forced her to step down from the senior game. She took over as manager last season and sees the link with Moors as a really exciting prospect;

 This is a dream opportunity for Solihull Ladies Football Club to develop as a community based club, with a strong ambition to achieve success within the Women's game. We cannot wait to get on board at the start of the 17/18 season, and look forward to working with everyone at Solihull Moors Football Club.

Personally I am delighted to be joining Moors in this new role. I have been involved in Women's football in the area for over 20 years, and I cannot wait to continue the development of the girls section, creating a successful pathway for girls and women to play football in our community."

 Moors Community Development Officer, Anthony Hasker, is equally delighted with the merger;

 The addition of a ladies first team is absolutely wonderful news for Solihull Moors and specifically the new girls section under Sarah’s leadership. We have been working extremely hard to get back up to 3 girls teams and this will now springboard the section forward, with more opportunities for young players to join our fantastic club.  Not only do the boys have a pathway from under 7's right through to the first team, but now the girls have this opportunity too.  We look forward to working with Sarah to build opportunities for the girls to develop their football careers and possibly get themselves into the first team in the coming years!"

For Academy Manager Mark Fogarty, It is a vital piece of the jigsaw which will enable Solihull Moors to fulfil it ethos to give everyone who wants to play and progress in football, the right opportunities to do so;

 “I am delighted to finally secure Sarah and the ladies into our Football structure. It’s been a long process but we were determined to make it happen to ensure a pathway for everyone who wants to play for the club at whatever level.

 I can honestly say now that Moors Academy has something in place for everyone who wants to play at the level their abilities allow.
