Local defender/midfielder joins the Moors...

Solihull Moors are thrilled to announce the signing of former National League winner and Solihull-born Mitch Hancox.

The ex-Birmingham City star joins the Club on a two-year deal after a season with League Two MK Dons.

Hancox, 25, spent the whole of his youth career with the Blues before going on to make 40 appearances in the first team.

He made 15 appearances during a loan spell at Crawley Town, scoring twice. His time at St Andrew’s then came to an end as he signed for Macclesfield Town in August 2016.

A natural left-sider, Hancox played 41 times in his first season at Moss Rose and netted six goals which included a hat-trick away at Boreham Wood.

His second season under John Askey was a memorable one as the Silkmen clinched the National League title, with Hancox playing a key role alongside current Moors striker Nathan Blissett. He made 39 appearances, scoring seven times – a hat-trick in a 4-1 win away at FC Halifax Town gave him his second matchball in as many seasons.

He most recently spent the season with MK Dons who gained automatic promotion back to League One at the first time of asking, although Hancox found opportunities limited in an injury-troubled campaign.

After putting pen-to-paper on a contract with the Moors – his hometown club – Hancox said: “As soon as I heard of the interest, it was brilliant.

“I’m a local lad, from the area and when it came about, I was like ‘yeah this is perfect’. I couldn’t turn it down.

“The whole ambition of the club is really attractive and everything’s going in the right way. I’m just glad that I’m a part of that now.

“Being a local boy in Solihull, being born here – I’d like to think that here in Solihull we can do things our own way and go one step further than last season.”
