Solihull Moors secured a point on the road in their final away game of the 2020/21 season at King’s Lynn Town.

Adam Rooney’s sublime finish in the 54thminute of the contest made it six unbeaten in the Vanarama National League.

REPORT:

It was a bright start to the encounter for the Moors, who were applying the early pressure and trying to find the breakthrough right from the start. Jordon Thompson managed to squeeze an intricate ball into his fellow team-mate Alex Addai, and he couldn’t pick out anyone in the middle - but the intent was there for all to see.

The hosts began to grow into the contest and with their second opportunity, they grabbed the lead on the half-hour mark. Ross Barrows was the man on the end of a wicked delivery as his header was glanced on from the near post and found its way into the far corner beyond the stranded Ryan Boot in between the Moors goal.

Just five minutes later, Moors thought they had found the equaliser. Jordan Cranston delivered an exquisite ball into the area from the right-hand side from the free-kick and in the middle was skipper Kyle Storer, who saw his header right down the throat of the keeper and into the hands of the grateful Theo Richardson in the Linnets goal.

Moors now applying all the pressure to grab an equaliser just before the interval, Callum Maycock was found in a pocket of space before turning and combined with Joe Sbarra brilliantly before unleashing a powerful drive at Richardson’s near post that he was equal to, to push it away for a corner that eventually came to nothing.

Half-time: King’s Lynn Town 1-0 Solihull Moors

After the break and four minutes into the second period, Moors were fortunate not to be two goals down. Firstly, Sonny Carey was denied by a last-ditch tackle before the rebound fell to Simeon Jackson, who was denied by the feet of Boot. The ball somehow found its way back outside of the area and the third attempt saw it clip the outside of the post.

The let-off did provide Mark Yates the opportunity to shuffle the pack, as he brought on Kyle Hudlin for James Ball. The big man had the instant impact as he laid it off to Addai on the right-hand side, who caused mayhem for his marker before firing a low cross into the area, and on the end of it was Rooney, who neatly finshed home to draw the Moors level.

On 64 minutes, the substitute was involved again as Hudlin rolled his man with ease after receiving a fantastically threaded through-ball from Sbarra. Hudlin managed to turn his man before firing just wide of the left-hand post.

Yates rolled the dice with a second substitute bringing on Archer for Storer, symbolising his intention on not settling for a point, but in the end it counted for nothing as the Moors were frustrated as they had to settle for a point in their final away game of the season.
