Warburton signs!

Solihull Moors are delighted to announce the signing of experienced attacking midfielder Matty Warburton on a two-year deal following his departure from FC Halifax, subject to league and FA approval.

It’s been a busy week for the Manchester born playmaker, who lifted the FA Trophy at Wembley Stadium on Sunday and celebrated his 31st birthday on Wednesday, before signing for Moors.

Warburton departed the Shaymen after a successful two years at the Club in which he also reached the National League play-offs in the 2021/22 season.

Upon signing his paperwork on Wednesday, Warburton said: “I’m delighted to be here, it’s a club that I’ve kept my eye on for quite some time and have always impressed me with the way that they play.

“It has been a busy few days! Signing off at Wembley in the Trophy final was brilliant and now I’m just glad to get this over the line.”

Warburton spent his formative years at Manchester-based sides Maine Road FC and Curzon Ashton, winning promotion to the National League North with the latter in 2015.

After a brief stint at Salford City, he returned to Curzon, before spending two seasons at Stockport County, where his record of 34 goals in 79 matches earned him a move to the Football League in 2019.

His arrival at Northampton Town also saw him turn professional at the age of 27, having balanced a job as a PE teacher alongside his career in non-league.

His first campaign at Sixfields saw him win promotion to League One via the Play-Offs and he was part of the squad that defeated Exeter City in the final at Wembley.

Following a handful of appearances in the third tier, he was loaned to Yeovil Town for the remainder of the 2020/21 season, before signing for Halifax that summer.

Welcome to Moors, Matty!
