The football club is running at full steam ahead across its various sections, take a moment to pause and catch-up on the latest Moors news…

Highlight of the week

In a successful week for the club, which saw both the men’s and women’s first teams secure victories, our Under 10’s at Moors also had a trip to remember.

They were invited down to reigning FA Cup holders and the 2015/16 Premier League champions Leicester City. Our youngsters enjoyed a tour of the new training facility, but also managed to take on some of their teams in games, so the experience they received was like no other.

Elite Academy

Jack Myatt’s recent involvement within the first team environment and hard work has been rewarded.

The goalkeeper, who has travelled to first team fixtures since the trip to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, has been allocated a squad number.

He will sport the number 26 should he be called up to the first team matchday squad.

Myatt continues to train daily with goalkeeping coach Kevin Poole alongside his Elite Academy commitments, again highlighting the pathway to senior football within the club’s set-up.

Foundation

Saturday saw the Winter Wellness Walk take place, an initiative supported by Living Well and led by the Village of Forgiveness.

Walkers met in Mell Square in Solihull Town Centre and embarked on a festive stroll to the ARMCO Arena where they were met with mince pies and a 2-0 Moors victory over Woking.

A magnificent £258.98 was collected by Foundation staff as well as numerous shoe donations, which will all go towards the project of supporting Afghan refugees arriving in the area by means of providing basic necessitates – thank you to every single one of you who supported the walk.

We would like to say a massive thank you to those who came along and started their Christmas shopping early, at the Foundation’s Christmas market on Sunday 28th November.

The event was a huge success, with plenty of faces through the door snapping up their festive essentials.

We would also like to say an incredible thank you to those who kindly donated to the Helping Hands Toy Appeal this year. Any gift, no matter how big or small, will go a long way to putting a smile on the faces of children on Christmas Day. So, we would like to commend you all following the efforts you have shown to kindly donate gifts!

And, finally, to remind you all, the popular Christmas Holiday Camp gets underway on Monday 20th December.

If you’re looking for childcare over the festive period, then look no further than booking a place on the camp for your child.

Be quick, places are being snapped up, particularly with the buy one day get another day free offer which ends on Friday!

Special guest appearances from Moors first team stars will also take place on Thursday 23rd December and Thursday 30th December – plenty for the kids to look forward to this Christmas!

Women

Last week, Solihull Moors Women secured their first win under the new management team of Tom Blaymires and Ben Davis. This week, their attention turned to Leek Town and back to The FA Women’s National League. Having thrashed their opponents on the opening day of the season, Moors were hoping for more of the same in this encounter as Tom eyed his first three points on his league debut.

Before all of that though, Moors unveiled three new signings ahead of the weekend as they welcomed Tiana Russell-Cartwright and Ella Gray to the club.

We also saw the return of Pip Harmison, who walked back through the doors of the ARMCO Arena to join the side. Pip was named Player of the Season in the 2018/19 season and Tom Blaymires expressed his delight with all three signings.

Now turning our attention to the weekend, little did Tom and Ben realise just how good their weekend was going to be as they claimed a hugely important three points. Moors produced six of the best to return to winning ways in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 Midlands. A brace from league debutant and latest signing, Tiana Russell-Cartwright, added by goals from Zoe Creaney, Charlotte Leedham, Jess Lowe, and Abby Jackson secured a huge win for the ladies.

Girls Section

TEN OUT OF TEN! These girls will take some stopping! Jon Sims’ side continue to eclipse their own records as they have now accumulated 30 points out of 30 at the start of the season. At the same time, they are on a run of 27 consecutive wins. WOW!

In other news, and staying in the same division, Piers Webster’s Under 14 girls secured their first win of the 2021/22 season on Saturday as they came out on top in a close encounter vs Stourbridge to ensure that they claimed a hugely important and morale boosting 1-2 victory.

In Division One of our Under 14’s section, Mike Poole’s side returned to winning ways as they cruised to a 1-4 win which got them back on track in the hunt for an automatic promotion place come the end of the campaign.

Saturday Section (MJPL)

This weekend saw Alan Palmer’s side make it back-to-back wins in the Under 16 MJPL division as they came out on top in a really hard-fought contest. Goals from Harry Bergin, Ethan Green, Harley Jones, and substitute Dominic Nash ensured Alan’s side would walk away with a 4-3 win against Gloucester Elite Performance Centre.

Elsewhere, in our Under 18’s section, Dan Sumers’ side secured a point in a close encounter. Goals from Benjamin Gooderham and Ali Shimul ensured that our young Moors side weren’t beaten and ended a run of three straight defeats.

Sunday Section

There were many highs this weekend just gone for our Sunday section.

We start with a massive victory for Stuart Shelton’s Under 12’s. Before we dive deeper into their win, we would firstly like to start with saying what an incredible job Stuart has done since taking over the side. He has got the team moving up the table and this was emphasised even further this weekend as his side secured another three points. The win moves Stuart’s side up to 4th in the table. The win was the side’s fourth win in succession and means that Stuart has only lost once in his time in charge out of six outings.

Staying with our Under 12’s section, Asmo Jogia’s side secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season as his side came from behind to take all three points in a seven-goal thriller.

Furthermore, it was a superb weekend for James Hancock and his Under 14’s group as they secured their first win of the season and in some style, by four goals to nil.

Our Under 16’s, coached by Dean Williams, are flying high in Division Five right now as they made it five games unbeaten in all competitions. They fought back twice in their game against 2nd in the table Hillfield AFC and played out a fascinating 2-2 draw, moving up a place to fourth in the process.
