Moors get the job done...
Kyle Hudlin’s moment of brilliance helped fire Moors to a 4-0 victory over National League North side Farsley Celtic in the FA Trophy Third Round on Saturday.
Hudlin repeating his heroics from Tuesday night with yet another jaw-dropping strike to set Jimmy Shan’s men on their way into the fourth round.
A brace from substitute Cameron Archer and a goal from Mitch Hancox gave a real gloss to the final scoreline but it wasn’t one-way traffic as the result would suggest.
It was far from a straight forward afternoon for Moors with the game taking place on the 3G pitch after the SportNation.bet Stadium pitch was deemed unfit to play.
Moors settled well, looking dangerous on the counter but it was Ryan Boot who was the first keeper called into action, reacting sharply to stop Tyler Walton’s deflected effort.
The hosts’ first chance of note fell to Joe Sbarra, who beat the onrushing Steven Drench but his lobbed effort dropped narrowly wide.
Then with the half lacking any real quality, Hudlin came to the fore. Collecting the ball from Stephen Gleeson, he turned and from 20 yards, struck a curling effort into the top corner.
It was a moment of class from the 20-year-old, one which lit up a very tight first half and saw Shan’s side take a 1-0 lead into the break.
In a frantic start to the second half, Moors almost profited from a goalmouth scramble before Boot was called upon to deny Farsley forward Jimmy Spencer.
Moors were pushing for a second, and it came midway through the half. Krystian Pearce’s deflected effort hit Archer and nestled into the bottom corner.
One for the dubious goals committee but there was no doubting Archer’s next contribution, a low driven strike which gave Moors their third goal of the game.
And substitute Archer was heavily involved in the home side’s fourth, his neat low cut-back was well-tucked home by Hancox.
In the end, a resounding victory but make no mistake, Shan's side were made to work hard for their place in the next round of the competition.
