Statistical Preview: Solihull Moors vs Halifax Town

Solihull currently sit 14th in the National League and have not won any of their last five games. Halifax sit 8th in the league and are unbeaten in their last four games, winning their last two fixtures.

Andy’s Bet Club’s
football analyst will break down Halifax’s recent clash with Boreham Wood to see what the statistics suggest about how they might set up against Solihull.

Despite losing the game 3-2, it was Boreham Wood that dominated. They had nearly twice as many shots in the game and also had a higher xG (expected goals) of 1.30, compared to Halifax’s xG of 0.49.

Boreham Wood also had more possession in the game and their passing accuracy and passing distances played a large role in this. They had a passing accuracy of 86% and a long pass percentage of 8%. In comparison, Halifax had a 80% passing accuracy and a 16% long pass percentage.

Halifax were very passive when they were out of possession, with a PPDA (Passes per Defensive Action) of 16.6 and an average formation line of 43.3 metres. Whereas, Boreham Wood were a lot more on the front foot, with a PPDA of 8.2 and an average formation line of 53.4 metres.

Final Thoughts

Solihull will need to watch out for Josh Hmami, who has been Halifax’s most influential attacker this season, with a combined 16 goals and assists.

Although Halifax don’t create a large number of chances every game, they have been accurate when they have been in front of goal. They have a shooting accuracy of 41.2% - which is the 4th best in the league.

Halifax have averaged a PPDA of 14.65 this season which is in the bottom two in the league when it comes to pressing. Therefore, Solihull can expect to face a low and compact defensive unit.

Halifax have lined up in a 5-3-2 in their previous two fixtures and with them picking up maximum points in these games, it would be no surprise if they continue with this shape.

Solihull Moors were left frustrated on the road as a strong second-half showing was cancelled out by a resilient Brackley Town fightback. The Moors were forced to settle for a point on the road as Brackley Town fought back in the second half at St James Park. The hosts began on the front foot, although clear-cut chances were at a premium in a scrappy opening period. It was the Moors who carved out the first real opportunity, as Jamey Osborne delivered a superb ball over the top for Bradley Stevenson, whose well-struck volley was matched by an equally impressive save from Maxted. Brackley came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute. A deep cross from Roberts found Lowe rising highest, but his header crashed against the crossbar with Laurie Walker beaten, ensuring the sides went into the interval level after a stop-start first half. The Moors emerged after the break with renewed intent and were rewarded early in the second period. Isaac Moore picked up possession on the edge of the area and drilled a low effort beyond the Brackley goalkeeper to give the visitors the advantage. Moments later, the hosts were reduced to ten men as former Moors striker Tavon Campbell was shown a red card following an aerial challenge. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Brackley responded with determination and gradually worked their way back into the contest. Their persistence paid off in the 75th minute when Lowe found space inside the area and fired past Walker to restore parity. Neither side was able to find a decisive moment in the closing stages, with the game losing momentum following the equaliser as both teams were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

The Moors make the trip to Brackley Town for what is their second closest away fixture in the Enterprise National League. Both sides come into this game looking to bounce back after heavy defeats at the weekend, with Brackley Town falling to a 4-1 loss against Woking. There is little to separate the teams in recent form, with now just seven points between them. The Moors currently sit 22nd in the form table, while Brackley Town are just behind in 24th. The last meeting between the sides saw the Moors claim all three points, courtesy of a late winner from Creaney.

Five-star Wealdstone take advantage of Moors’ poor form The home side started quickly and took the lead in the 12th minute. A well-delivered free-kick was met by McAvoy, whose header flew into the top-left corner and left Laurie Walker with no chance. Wealdstone continued to dominate throughout the first half, but went into the break with only a one-goal advantage, leaving the Moors with hope heading into the second period. That hope was dented in the 56th minute when Adarkwa found space on the right wing, drove forward, cut inside onto his right foot and fired an uncontested effort into the bottom-right corner. The Stones struck again just three minutes later as Tshikuna made it three, lashing a powerful shot into the left side of the net from outside the box. Conor Wilkinson pulled one back for the Moors on 64 minutes, but Wealdstone responded immediately from the restart. Substitute Agyemang played Obiero through, and he made no mistake in front of goal. Tiensia then added a fifth for the hosts from close range six minutes later to round off a difficult afternoon for the Moors.
