Solihull Moors sealed their place in the third round of the Buildbase FA Trophy after a hard-fought victory against FC Halifax Town.
Nathan Blissett’s header on the 59-minute mark was enough for Tim Flowers’ side to progress in the second round replay at the Automated Technology Group Stadium.
There was limited action in the opening 15 minutes, although Ryan Boot had to be alert to thwart both Matt Kosylo and then Scott Quigley.
The Moors had their first sight at goal when Jamey Osborne worked the ball well onto his left foot, before drilling a low shot that had to be tipped wide by Sam Johnson.
And the visiting ‘keeper had to react quickly when Liam Daly and Alex Gudger helped the ball into a dangerous area, before Town defender Jacob Hanson almost diverted into his own net but for a smart save.
Quigley then found himself free on the edge of the Moors box and fired an effort that Boot did well to claim at the second attempt.
Kosylo dinked his way into the penalty area, but there was Boot to save low with his legs when the visiting number seven drilled his shot towards goal.
Half-time: Solihull Moors 0-0 FC Halifax Town
The deadlock was broken 14 minutes into the second half as Osborne hit a delicious effort that rebounded off the underside of the bar, before Blissett was there to nod home from close range.
It was then one full back to another as Jamie Reckord’s deep cross from the left was met at the back stick by Tyrone Williams who could only half volley into the arms of Johnson.
On the break, the visitors should have levelled the score line as Kosylo broke in behind the Moors midfield and fed Quigley – the striker, clean through on goal, could only drift his shot wide of the post.
Moors then began to apply some pressure in search of a second goal as Osborne delivered from the left and Gudger headed wide in the middle.
Danny Wright was next to try his luck with a header at the back post which drifted inches wide after a pinpoint delivery from Williams.
Terry Hawkridge came on for his home debut with just over half an hour to spare and he almost assisted a second Solihull goal. His deep free kick was met by Gudger, but his far post header drifted agonisingly wide.
Blissett’s solitary goal was the difference as the Moors reach the third round of the trophy for the first time ever - they will now travel to Hemel Hempstead Town in the next round.
