Late winner sends Moors joint top...

Solihull Moors sit level on top of the Vanarama National League table following a stunning late victory away at Maidenhead United.

Substitute Adi Yussuf struck deep into injury time just as the game looked to be ending level, to spark delirious scenes in the away end.

The hosts started on the front foot, winning a corner in the first minute. Alfie Kilgour met the ball in the middle, but his header was blocked by Nathan Blissett and claimed by Ryan Boot.

Some smart build-up play down the left side by Moors resulted in Jamie Reckord lofting a ball into the middle where Blissett was waiting, but he could only head high and wide.

James Comley set his sights from distance with a shot that looked to be arrowing into the top corner, before Boot plucked out of the air.

Maidenhead came so close to an opener when Boot’s punch out from a free kick fell to Alan Massey who followed up and struck the inside of the post, with the help of a fingertip from the Moors ‘keeper.

The Moors, perhaps against the run of play, took the lead on the half hour mark. A corner kick was flicked on by Alex Gudger and dropped to Liam Daly who controlled and saw his effort squirm under a number of legs and Carl Pentney in the home goal.

Alan Devonshire’s side levelled just 10 minutes later. Darren Carter was judged to have fouled his man in the penalty area and up stepped Adrian Clifton to calmly send Boot the wrong way.

An untimely slip from Gudger then allowed Clifton through on goal and with a chance to put his side into the lead, but Boot was out to thwart the striker with a well-timed challenge.

Half-time: Maidenhead United 1-1 Solihull Moors

Jamey Osborne’s corner kick met the head of Danny Wright and his flick looked to be heading in, before it hit Terry Hawkridge who was in an offside position.

The Moors had a good opportunity from a set piece to whip a ball in from the left-hand side, but Osborne’s cross drifted straight into the arms of Pentney.

Tim Flowers’ side applied some serious pressure to the home defence as substitute Jermaine Hylton collected the ball, cut inside and curled his strike off the underside of the bar – fellow substitute Luke Maxwell then saw his follow-up blocked and out for a corner.

The Solihull goal was barely threatened in the second period, with the Moors trying ever so hard to find a winner that would take them joint top.

A number of balls in and exchanges in and around the box just didn’t seem to drop for the visitors.

Blissett, now playing as the central striker, nodded the ball wide of the left post with the game entering its latter stages.

A long throw into the box then dropped at the feet of Blissett, but his shot was well held by Pentney.

As the game entered injury time, Maidenhead looked to attack as an overhead kick was well-saved by Boot.

But, deep into added time, Osborne picked up the ball and steadied himself before shooting. The low effort was parried by Pentney, but there was Yussuf to pick up the pieces and tap home from close range.
