In the Opposite Dugout
Dave Challinor is an ex-professional defender who played 140 games for Tranmere Rovers and after two season at Stockport County chalked up another 156 games for Bury. Whilst at Tranmere, he played in the 2000 Football League Cup Final.
Before joining Saturday’s visitors as Manager in November 2011, he had taken the hot seat at Colwyn Bay (the last team for which he played) and guided them to promotion to the Conference North.
He has presided over AFC Fylde’s promotions from the NPL First Division North, the Northern Premier League and two seasons ago, the National League North.
Man to Watch
Obviously there is National League leading goal scorer, Danny Rowe!
Also keep an eye on Daniel Philliskirk who can play up front or in midfield. He joined the Coasters during the summer from Blackpool. He began his career as a junior with his local team Oldham Athletic before moving to Chelsea. Having failed to break into the Chelsea side he spent time on loan at Oxford United before signing for Sheffield United and then onto Coventry City and The Seasiders.
Daniel is the son of former Sheffield United and Bolton Wanderers forward Tony Philliskirk who was the Head of Youth development at Oldham Athletic for many years.
A Quote from Tim Flowers
"They’re an outstanding side – probably the best footballing team in the division. They play a really expansive, possession-based game and they’re very pleasing on the eye.
"I’m anticipating a really difficult game. They’re coming off the back of an excellent result against Wrexham and we’re coming off the back of an away win at Maidenhead.
"The technical play and the way that they’re drilled, they can go through you very quickly – particularly if you don’t get your your shape right. We’ve got to be mindful of that. They’re very attack-based and very proactive from full back and midfield areas."
Matty Stenson is touch and go after picking up a shoulder injury in training. Other than than, Moors have a fully fit squad to choose from.
Did You Know?
Dave Challinor previously held the world record for the longest throw in football. This was 152 feet (46.34 meters) in a special challenge set-up at Prenton Park in 1998.
