Description

Andy Whing arrives at Solihull Moors following a successful spell at Banbury United, having resigned from his position at the club in May.

The 38-year-old led the Puritans to the Vanarama National League North for the first time in the club’s history in what was a record-breaking season. Whing guided his side to the Southern League Central title, winning the league by 23 points with four games to go.

The Birmingham born coach started his footballing career at Coventry City where he made 106 appearances for the Sky Blues before his move to Brighton & Hove Albion where he made 103 appearances during his time on the South Coast.

Whing went on to represent Chesterfield, Leyton Orient and Oxford United before retiring in 2015.

The former Coventry City defender kick-started his coaching career at Kidderminster Harriers in 2017 with their under 23s, before joining up with Russell Slade at Hereford in 2019.

Whing will also be assisted by the ever-present James Quinn, who has been a key figure in the Moors dugout since 2018.

Speaking on his next challenge with the Moors, Whing said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Solihull Moors and delighted to make the step up into full-time management.

“My time at Banbury has given me a great grounding and the experience that I gained there will prove invaluable. I can’t wait to get going now, meet the lads and start pre-season off on the right foot.

“Having seen the training facilities and the set up here at Moors, I am incredibly impressed by what I have seen and feel we have everything in place to have a successful season.

“I have known the Chairman since my days at Oxford, and he was a big reason in me coming here, it’s an incredible opportunity and now I want to repay the faith that he has shown me. Like I say I am chomping at the bit to get started.”

Moors Chairman Darryl Eales has every belief that Whing can succeed and is excited about a new chapter at Moors.

“I’m delighted that Andy has joined Moors as Head Coach working alongside Director of Football, Stephen Ward, and First Team Coach, James Quinn,” said Eales.

“I’ve known Whingy since my Oxford days and his professionalism, his commitment to the highest standards and his drive and work ethic have always impressed me.

“He understands the Club and its Community route and deserves this opportunity after his excellent spell at Banbury and having learnt his stripes from working with experienced coaches like Michael Appleton and John Eustace.

“He is an on the grass coach who will settle at the club quickly as we look forward to a season of progression. I’ve no doubt we will be one of the fittest teams in the league!

“He will embrace the club fully and I look forward to building a great relation with him.”

Welcome to Moors, Whingy!
